Carol C. Villegas

Carol C. Villegas concentrates her practice on prosecuting complex securities litigations on behalf of institutional investors.
Prior to joining Labaton Sucharow, Ms. Villegas served as the Assistant District Attorney in the Supreme Court Bureau, for the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to participating in all aspects of case management, she first and second seated numerous trials, selected juries, argued pre-trial motions, prepared witnesses for testimony, and engaged in direct cross examination.
Ms. Villegas began her career at King & Spalding LLP where she worked as an associate in the Intellectual Property practice group. During her time there, she drafted letters, motions, briefs, stipulations, and memoranda, as well as engaged in discovery and extensive legal research.
Ms. Villegas maintains a strong commitment to
pro bono work. As a volunteer attorney with Inmotion, Inc., she drafted divorce and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) pleadings, as well as counseled women in the areas of matrimonial, family and immigration law.
Ms. Villegas earned a B.A. from New York University in 1999, and received a J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 2002. During law school, she was the Staff Editor, and later became the Notes Editor, of the
Environmental Law Journal. On a merit based scholarship, Ms. Villegas was awarded The Irving H. Jurow Achievement Award for the Study of Law, as well as being a recipient of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York Minority Fellowship.
Ms. Villegas is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and the United States District Courts for New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Ms. Villegas is fluent in Spanish.
