Michael Markunas concentrates his practice on prosecuting complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors.

Prior to joining Labaton Sucharow, Mr. Markunas practiced as a consulting attorney. As a seasoned broker-dealer and Registered Investment Advisor with broad regulatory and legal experience, Mr. Markunas responded to SEC inquiries into alleged financial improprieties, investigated potential antitrust violations in complex municipal bond swap transactions, and conducted investigations into the mis-marking of Credit Default Swaps to determine firm versus individual liability for select transactions.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Markunas was a branch manager and compliance officer for A.G. Edwards & Sons and Prudential Securities.

Mr. Markunas is a Level II candidate for the CFA charter and is an active member of the Compliance and Legal division of SIFMA. In addition, he is registered with FINRA and has a series 3, 7, 8 and 63 license.

During his time at the University of San Diego School of Law, Mr. Markunas was a finalist in the Jessop International Moot Court competition.
